| A large percentage of farming operations are mixed farms with many of these largely supported by cow/calf livestock operations. Herd size averages range from 40 - 150 head of varying breeds of cattle. Located within the municipality is a hog farrowing barn with a capacity of 650 sows. A small number of horse breeders are located in the municipality with a few producers diversified to other types of exotic livestock. Grain poducers seed largely cereal crops, followed by cash crops such as canola and flax, to other crops such as buckwheat and lentils. Forage crops, good quality seeded and tame hay are produced here, as soil and growing conditions are favorable. Many producers have risen to the challenge of decreasing farm economic stability by diversifying to other creative farm production enterprises such as berry production, hemp, borage, and other value added products. |

| Soil information: Generally sandy loam, clay loam, small areas of peat, rock and swamp. Water: Generally good to very good quality. Small areas with increased salinity and mineral concentration. Water erosion determination high along eastern slope of the Duck Mountain Provicnial Park, low in other areas, Mountain originated streams and rivers flow through farmland in district. (Fork River, Fishing River, Garland River and Shanty Creek) Wind erosion risk: Low to moderate in all areas of municipality. |
